Dawn Chapman, Director of Bright Beginnings Childcare Center in Stafford sent us this account of how her PreK students enjoyed the Green Dragon Smoothie lesson this month. This center joined Doctor Yum’s Preschool Food Adventure and have embraced the curriculum from the start. We are so glad their students are enjoying their adventure!
With cold and flu season upon us, the PK class learned how important it is to eat right. They learned that a lot of what we eat can help us from getting sick. They learned that grapes, oranges, and pineapples are very high in vitamin c and are excellent germ buster. When we were talking to the children about certain fruits and veggies being germ busters, one of the little guys said “Oh, I know what that is.” I said, “Really what is a germ buster?” He said, “It is when you wash your hands and sing songs.” They also learned that Pineapples and Spinach are very good for our tummy because they are packed with fiber. The highlight of our discussion was when we learned about bananas. Bananas have vitamin B6 and that is great for making us super smart. The PK class enjoyed using the dog knives to cut the fruit so it would fit in the blender. The PK classroom loved their Green Dragon Smoothie. As the children were leaving for the day I overheard one of the young ladies telling her grandma that she drank a green dragon and it is going to make her super smart. Grandma looked at me and I said “Yes, they did.” Grandma giggled and said she couldn’t wait to hear all about it.
